Model 901V-3x3 Sub-mm Wave (550 GHz) 

DESCRIPTION

Model 901V-3x3 is ideal for measuring satellite antennas at sub-millimeter wave frequencies. The figure shows the planar test system that was delivered to test NASA's Sub-millimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS). The mission of this satellite is to measure the emissions from intergalactic gas clouds at frequencies of 540-560 GHz. The NSI system provided extremely high planarity and thermal stability, necessary for tests at this high frequency.

CAPABILITIES

The system includes special thermal compensation techniques to minimize the phase change in the measurement RF cables, AUT, and scanner. NSI was awarded a patent (U.S. Patent No. 5,419,631) for this work. This patented technology is incorporated in to our Motion Tracking Interferometer (MTI) product.

The system includes NSI Antenna Measurement Software that operates on a Pentium based measurement workstation. The software provides automatic set up of scans based on measurement parameters and desired output. Measured data can be processed for far-field or holographic patterns yielding complete characterization of the antenna’s performance. A single data set provides information on antenna gain, side lobe structure, beam pointing and cross polarization.
