A view of Cogswell Dam from near the start of this trail segment
The reservoir continues for a short distance after rounding the bend.
The main West Fork trail is on the mountain range visible in the distance. This
photo is where the water stops (at least in early June). Just past
this point, the trail splits into two routes. A short trail heads to the
lake surface and the other trail continues North. Click here
for a larger, more detailed panoramic view from this location.
This experimental photograph shows the the view an insect might see.
The location is at the end of the Devil's Canyon trail.
Another experimental insect viewpoint photo. The moth is about 1/2 inch
tall.
The trail abruptly stops about a mile from the dam. A nice foot
trail continues for another 0.2 miles although the last part is along a
cliff. Click
here for a panoramic view at this location. The two previous experimental
photographs were made among the small flowers visible at the trail edge
toward the left side of the panorama image.

The foot trail, barely visible in the shadows on the left side of the photograph ends here on the side of this cliff. There appears to be an abandoned and deteriorating fire road that continues a little bit further, visible at the right side of the photograph. I have not yet explored that trail
Trail map
Season: Best in the spring when the reservoir is full and the plants
colorful.
Difficulty: Strenuous to get to the start of this trail. The trail
itself is easy.
Hazards: No drinkable
water anywhere along the trail, generally an isolated area.
