Legg Lake

One of the most scenic areas in the Whittier Narrows region is Legg Lake. The Whittier Narrows region also includes a wildlife preserve and connects to both the San Gabriel River and Rio Hondo / LA River bicycle trails.

Legg Lake includes a number of small lakes. The east side is quite park like and the west side has several islands with nesting birds.

A telescopic view of a nesting Blue Herron at the west end of the park. Other birds often seen here include Osprey, Egrets, Geese, Ducks and Coots.

Looking like a runway for alien spacecraft, this is actually a short connector trail between La River (LARIO) and San Gabriel River trails. It is just South of Legg Lake. The Puente Hills are visible in the distance.

Season: anytime -- Summer can be quite hot, Spring is quite nice.
Difficulty: easy
Hazards: crowds
